DIY Face Mask Guideline During COVID-19
Yes, we can use cloth face covers to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The proper use of face masks, together with frequent hand washing and social distancing, is an effective way to protect each other. Note the keywords *proper and *together with.
Cloth face masks are now recommended as a better-than-nothing option. It, first and foremost, helps protect others from us in case we carry the virus unknowingly. Second, it could also keep us safe from droplets released when someone coughs or sneezes.
Many DIY-ers and manufacturers have stepped up to produce cloth face masks. We've also seen many people use what they already have - pieces of clothing, bandanas, etc. A few people have also told me that they've been using their Versa Toques and Versa Ties as face mask. I have, too! However, I would like to point out a few things and share with you a guideline to be extra safe.
Care Guideline
- Wash your hands thoroughly before putting on your face mask.
- When setting your face mask, check that there is no space between the fabric and your skin. The Versa Toque provides face to neck coverage but, depending on the shape of your face, you might find a gap between your nose and cheeks. If you need to tighten the hold of the toque, try folding the top once or twice.
- Once on, avoid touching it. If you do, wash your hands with soap and water.
- When you're done with the mask, carefully take it off, without the exterior touching various parts of your body. Make sure that you don't touch your eyes, mouth and nose.
- Wash your hands as well as the toque, tie or cloth face mask with soap and water. Hand washing the toque or tie right away is recommended. When done, simply lay them flat or hang them in a clean area. They are fast drying.
Please note:
The Versa Toque and Tie may have anti-bacterial properties but they do NOT kill off viruses. Please wash to be safe.
To summarize:
- Practice social distancing (stay home as much as you can)
- Wash your hands with soap and water
- If you are to wear a mask, do so properly
- Wash your hands with soap and water
- Wash your hands with soap and water
- I think you get the picture ;)
- Stay healthy, exercise, meditate, and smile - even when it's difficult (just try it)
Stay safe and healthy!
